Andrew Stansfeld was born in 1957 and has had a lifelong interest in plants and gardens nurtured by his parents, grandfather and aunt.


From a small plot in the home garden as a child his experience widened to include work as a student gardener at Cambridge University Botanic Garden and Blooms Nurseries, Bressingham. He went on to read for an honours B.Sc degree in Horticulture at Wye College, University of London. Vacation work included time at the RHS Garden, Wisley.

After graduation he went on to work for Paul Miles, Garden Designer and Consultant and as gardener to the late Mea Allan, author and gardener.

Two years later he undertook further study for the Diploma/MA in Landscape Design at Sheffield University. Work experience for Gordon Patterson and Partners - Landscape Architects during the vacation, was followed on completion of the course by work in the Department of Transport in London.

Since 1986 he has worked as a freelance Garden Designer on projects large and small. His work has been exhibited at BBC Gardeners World Live, the Festival of Gardening at Hatfield House and the Country Living Fair at the Business Design Centre.
